The Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority has a well knit network of preraks as well as CECs. At present there are 4000 CECs spread over the entire state. The number of preraks comes to 8000. Almost all of them are young volunteers with high educational qualifications. Preraks are the back bone. Continuing education centers are managed by Preraks.
Key Resource Persons
Key Resource Persons (KRPs) consist of former Saksharatha activists or retired teachers, social activists of the locality whose role is catalystic. They do voluntary service to promote the Continuing Education Project by linking the activities of the Prerak with the local bodies on the one level and the people on the other of the 140 Key Resource Persons belonging to 14 districts. Half are nominated by the District Saksharatha Samithies and the other half by the State Literacy Mission. There are also 1414 Resource Persons. Their distribution follows the pattern of one in every Panchayath, two in every Block, two in every Municipality and three in every Corporation.
Regular training and orientation programmes are conducted by the KSLMA for the functionaries of the Project like the Co-ordinator, Preraks, Resource Persons, Saksharatha Samithi members, representatives of voluntary organisations and other friendly governmental and non-governmental agencies who collaborate with the KSLMA to promote continuing education activities.
