104 Odisha women workers at Kinfra attend literacy classes
Minister for Labour T.P. Ramakrishnan was pleasantly surprised when he reached a women’s hostel at the Kinfra Park, Kazhakuttam, late Wednesday evening.
Seliyama, Revathi, and Sharmila, some of the 104 migrant workers attending the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority’s Changathi Malayalam literacy programme, had ready answers in Malayalam to his questions.
The Minister who began by asking the young women about their experiences in Kerala, then asked them about their food preferences.
Even before he could complete his question, Manasi had replied that she liked chicken and mutton.
A word of advice
The Minister told the women that learning new languages was beneficial. It was good to read books, but they should also read Malayalam newspapers every day, he said.
Mission director P.S. Sreekala, Kinfra Director Santhosh Kumar, Menamkulam Kinfra Apparel Park managing director Jeeva Anandan, and Changathi class instructor Kavitha P. were present.
All the 104 migrant workers at the women’s hostel are from Odisha. They are employed with Texport Industries Pvt Ltd. at the park.
Classes
They attend Malayalam classes from 6.15 p.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday to Saturday in two batches. Those who miss classes can make up by attending Sunday afternoon classes.
The first examination as part of Changathi will be held on November 25. As many as 2,285 migrant workers will appear for the exam in 225 centres in 13 districts, except Ernakulam.
