KOCHI: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the literacy programme of the Kerala State Literacy Mission (KSLM) for migrant labourers in Perumbavoor on Monday.
The literacy mission officials and peoples representatives need to build a strong platform by spreading awareness of the programme among migrant workers and urge them to come to the mainstream of education. The CM himself urged people to stand up for enhancing the living standards of migrant population.
“Migrant labourers are facing exploitation in Kerala too. They are spending their health for us. We need to ensure their welfare and health and Kerala society is responsible for enhancing their living condition,” the CM said.
“In many places, migrants are considered as strangers and uncivilized. The mindset of people needs to be changed. The literacy rate among linguistic minorities and disabled section is poor,” said the CM.The draft report on the programme was released at the function. Minister for Education C. Ravindranath presided over the function.
