The ‘yatra’ being jointly organised by the Kerala State Literacy Mission (KSLM) and the State Assembly to create increased public awareness of the Constitutional values was flagged off from Hosangadi in Kasaragod on Monday.
The Constitution literacy message yatra from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram was inaugurated by P. Karunakaran, MP, by handing over the yatra flag to the Kerala State Literacy Mission Director P.S. Sreekala. District panchayat president A.G.C. Basheer presided.
In his address the MP said that the yatra marked the KSLM’s launch of a new literacy culture that would uphold the Constitution and renaissance values.
Some people were trying to take the State back to the dark ages, he said adding that they were deliberately attempting to create unrest in the State in the name of customs and faiths.
Principles
Mr. Karunakaran said that no thought of the Constitution was possible by ignoring the principles of the independent judiciary, rule of law, secularism, federalism, freedom, social justice, sovereignty of the people and gender equality
The Constitution literary programme would conclude at the Constitution protection gathering at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on January 26.
The ‘sangamam’ would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
