The Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority on Sunday organised a function to felicitate one of its learners who led a 34- team of fishermen from Vizhinjam along with 10 boats for flood rescue operations.
Abdu Sali, a student of the 10th standard equivalency class of the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority, and his team saved 800 lives in Changanassery, Kuttanad, Chenmbakulam and Pamba. Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran draped a shawl and presented a memento.
Lauding Sali for his selfless service, the Minister urged each of the learners to contribute their best to help Kerala progress and was confident that the social literacy programme being imparted as part of the literacy programme will equip them for this.
Sali also narrated his experiences in the flood rescue.
